I Hate
The paper’s didn’t have the balls to publish my letter to the editor regarding the sunshine ‘hellmen’ so here it is.

In regards to the article ‘Youth gang terrorises diners’.

The article seems typical of the Sunshine Coast mentality towards youth’s, by this I mean offering criticism’s and reporting the wrong doings of youth but not offering any solutions whatsoever. Granted that destroying property isn’t a liable excuse for having nothing to do, however when youth’s first started gathering in the park months ago it was due to the lack of night life activities for underage youth, and even those of age. For example I myself am a 19 year old university student who firstly, doesn’t have the funds to support the Sunshine Coast nightlife, and secondly I do not wish to engage myself in such a scene, due to the fact that I am an individual that doesn’t have an interest in dance music and culture. Therefore I do not wish to spend my weekend at Mooloolaba or Noosa, so what am I to do? The Sunshine Coast has become a void for alternate music, and alternate cultures. Perhaps its time to stop complaining about the youth of the Sunshine Coast, and engage with the alternate scenes of the sunshine coast, set up some alternate music nights, just give us something to do. Policing isn’t the answer, because sure enough the youth will find a different park, or a different spot to gather until the police come and break it up again. The cycle will continue unless the council finally realises that the sunshine coast is a void and doesn’t offer sufficient activities for alternate youth cultures.
